Grade Rule

Grade Rule

Grade Rule refers to the standardized measurement increments applied when increasing or decreasing garment sizes from the base size. It ensures consistent and proportional sizing across the full size range. The purpose is to maintain accurate and balanced size progression from XS to XXL (or any size range). Grade Rules help production teams understand how each measurement—such as chest, waist, hip, length, and sleeve—is adjusted between sizes so all garments fit correctly across all body types.

What’s Included:
– Base size reference (commonly Size M or brand standard)

– Measurement increments for each point (e.g., +2 cm chest, +1 cm length, +0.5 cm shoulder per size)

– Grade differences for width, length, sleeve, rise, opening, and other specific POM

– Separate grade rules for tops, bottoms, dresses, outerwear, etc.

– Clear table layout for easy production interpretation

– Any brand-specific or custom grade preferences

Why It Matters:
Grade Rules ensure sizing accuracy and prevent distortion when scaling patterns up or down. Proper grading keeps proportions consistent, avoids fit issues in boundary sizes, and supports seamless mass production without repeated resizing errors.

Examples:
Tops Grade Example:
– Chest: +2 cm per size

– Length: +1 cm per size

– Shoulder: +0.5 cm per size

Bottoms Grade Example:
– Waist: +2.5 cm per size

– Hip: +2 cm per size

– Inseam: +1 cm per size
